Clinic/Rehabilitation Technician

Location: Kanab, Utah
Position Summary: This is a combined position which encompasses responsibilities from both Clinic and Hydrotherapy areas. Work closely with Veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians, Senior Technicians, Team Leader, Dogtown staff and Clinic support staff to provide medical care to all patients seen by the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary Clinic. Duties encompass a wide array of tasks including but not limited to medical record management, client communication, all aspects of veterinary nursing care, hydrotherapy/physical therapy and rehabilitation services to patients within Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, Clinic patients and employee pets. Perform and coordinate scheduling of Hydrotherapy and PT/Rehabilitation appointments (primarily Hydrotherapy & Laser) for Sanctuary and employee animals. Provide financial itemization for all services provided. Medical care provided by a Veterinary & Rehab Technician must be performed with general and specialized understanding of policies and procedures. They must be able to work independently and perform a majority of skills with minimal or no guidance.
Communicate professionally and with a high level of customer service to Clients, Veterinary staff, Management and other Sanctuary departments regarding all job responsibilities, especially the health and well-being of the sanctuary and employee
Maintain the ability to follow policies and procedures set by the Medical Director and Medical Operations Manager.
Maintain confidentiality regarding patient status/treatment, client information and other sensitive clinic operations.
Act as liaison between Veterinarians ,Clinic, Dogtown Technicians, Animal Care Management, Caregivers and owners regarding the health, status, and welfare of patients.
Have basic knowledge of common medical terminology, and conditions requiring physical therapy Maintain accurate record keeping, scheduling and documenting patients progress in Avimark as necessary to provide up-to-date medical records.
Assist in implementing a rehabilitation plan as outlined by the veterinary team.
Must be self driven and able to work independently with minimal supervision
Must be able to work collaboratively with multiple people/groups in managing/scheduling active medical cases.
Possess a willingness to learn about alternative therapies, and seek knowledge when required.
Perform Hydrotherapy and/or Laser sessions and any aftercare as prescribed by a Veterinarian and document in Avimark.
Perform routine physical therapy that may include stretching, range of motion, medical walks, and warm/cold compress therapy when requested by medical staff.
Maintain Hydrotherapy and other rehabilitation Equipment in good working order and cleanliness. This includes chemicals and water levels, as well as required maintenance, daily chemical testing of the water, ordering of all off-site chemicals and supplies for the Hydrotherapy unit.
Must be able to properly handle, restrain and safely work with animals that may have significant behavioral and physical conditions; including aggression, fearfulness and pain, and notify caregivers or technicians if assistance is required.
Maintain a clean work environment including proper disinfecting and general cleaning of area/ facility.
Follow any safety precautions for use of equipment as well as animal safety when performing duties.
Assist Team Lead and Medical Operations Manager with Hydrotherapy/Rehabilitation Policy and Procedure documentation.
Maintain monthly hydrotherapy/rehabilitation session statistics as specified by Medical Operations Manager.
Assist in other areas of the medical department as needed which may include; general veterinary technician duties; laboratory, pharmacy, general veterinary nursing care and surgical assisting.
Have a working knowledge of medical conditions, terminology, transcription and data entry.
Have sound mathematical knowledge of Veterinary medicine in order to properly dose medications and fluids.
Skills and Experience:
Prior experience working in an animal care related medical field or human physical therapy.
Must possess basic animal handling skills including restraint and proper lifting.
Work requires continual attention to detail. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
Demonstrates personal accountability to ensure that all responsibilities are completed effectively and in a timely manner.
Experience with customer service preferred.
Demonstrates ability to create and encourage a positive work environment.
Strong interpersonal skills, i.e., ability to develop positive relationships with others and demonstrate sensitivity to the thoughts, feelings and perspectives of others.
Accurate, appropriate, clear and concise written and verbal communication skills. Strong listening skills.
Experience with or ability to learn Microsoft Word and Excel, Avimark or other veterinary software, Google calendar, docs and email and ADP.
Able and willing to professionally advocate Best Friends and the Best Friends Medical team position on issues.
Willing to work on weekends/holidays/varying shift times.
Must have desire to further self- learning by asking questions and doing personal research when time allows.
Must have a valid driver's license and qualify for Best Friends insurance.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and handle animals of varying sizes and species, bending, stooping, and walking on a daily basis.
Must be able to perform strenuous manual labor. Ability to stand for long periods of time while performing work requiring concentration and manual dexterity.
Must be willing to work with and around chemicals to maintain hydrotherapy equipment.
Must be able to work out of doors in all weather conditions, with temperatures ranging from below freezing to 100 degrees.
Must be able to bend, stoop, hike, walk, kneel, and lift.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
